Places To Go

Spend as much time outdoors on Lopez Island as you can! Below are our favorite activities:

  • Saturday Farmers' Markets - MAP - INFO - PICS - Located right in The Village, the farmers market runs from 10am-2pm on Saturdays May through September. Great food (get the crepes!) and local crafts.

  • Inter-Island Ferry to Friday Harbor - You can park at the Lopez ferry terminal and walk on the inter-island ferry to Friday Harbor for free! Give yourself half a day and time the ferry to allow a few hours in Friday Harbor to walk around, get lunch, and take the boat back. Check out the San Juan Island Brewing Co and our favorite lunch spot called Market Chef.

  • Iceberg Point - MAP - INFO - PICS - This park is at the southern tip of Lopez and has breathtaking views of the Puget Sound, the Olympic mountains, and the cliffs of Whidbey Island all while offering miles of rocky coastline hiking along rolling green hills. It takes about a mile to walk in to the nearest overlook, but it's very flat and forgiving.  To get there, drive to Agate Beach State Park and park along Mackaye Harbor Rd. From there you'll see signs for the walk in.

  • Watmough Bay Preserve - MAP - INFO - PICS - This short walk leads to a beautiful bay and beach on the southeastern corner of Lopez. This is a great choice for those with kids. There are also dramatic cliffs that you can hike to the top of.

  • Shark Reef Sanctuary MAP - INFO - PICS - This is the best place on the island to watch sunset. It's a 1 mile easy walk out to a beautiful coastline teeming with wildlife.

  • Lopez Hill MAP - INFO - TRAIL MAP - This area is just down the road from our property and encompasses 400 acres of preserved land. There is a great network of trails running through it. From the trailhead up to the top and back via the longest loop is about 3 miles round-trip with 300' elevation gain. It is a great place to see Douglas Firs and get your hike on.

  • Odlin

  • Fisherman Bay Spit Preserve

  • Lopez Island Golf Course

  • Lopez Bicycle Works and Kayaks

  • Lopez Library

  • Hummel Lake

  • Land trust by the ferry

Coffee Shops

There are two coffee shops in The Village:

  1. Lopez Coffee Shop which is next to Holly B's Bakery.

  2. Isabel's which is across the street. We like Isabel's but you can't go wrong with either place

There's also coffee at The Southend Market.

Recommended Restaurants

  • Holly B's Bakery in The Village for great pastries, muffins, and croissants. Get an Almond Butterhorn and you won't regret it.

  • The Southend Market & Cafe has a great breakfast and good sandwiches on the go if you're exploring the south end of the island.

  • Setsunai Noodle Bar - Mouth watering noodle bowls. Located in The Village.

  • Vortex - Vegetarian hippie goodness. Long wait but you can sit in the sun. Located in The Village.

  • The Galley - Where all the locals go, an awesome bar with great food for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Try the mango fish tacos or the burgers.

  • Haven Kitchen & Bar - Get anything, amazing food and views. Open for lunch and dinner. Located in The Village.

  • Ursa Minor - Incredible 5 star, NYTimes reviewed restaurant. (Not great for kids.) Located in The Village.

Grocery Stores

There are 3 grocery stores on the island:

  1. Lopez Village Market in The Village is the biggest. It has everything you'd expect from a grocery store including a deli that also does pizzas.

  2. Blossom Market, also in The Village. Smaller and the selection is more like what you would find in a co-op. They have local barnowl bakery bread, worth checking out just for the bread (also at the farmer's market).

  3. South End General Store. Small but good selection. They also have sandwiches and things to go in addition to the cafe on site.

Gas

There are two places to get gas on the island:

  1. In the village at Lopez Village Market

  2. At the Southend Store
